Alphabet Sounds Word Study 2.0

Word Study considers students' comprehension levels to determine the starting point for spelling instructions, analyzing their misspellings of various word patterns. It engages students in activities that require the analysis, manipulation, and creation of logical generalizations about word spellings.

Key skills for early readers and writers revolve around recognizing letters and their sounds. Initially, identifying beginning letter sounds is easier for young learners, as seen in their inventive spellings. Progression typically involves grasping ending sounds before advancing to middle vowel sounds and more complex features like blends and digraphs.

The Alphabet Sounds App aligns with the spelling development theory elucidated by Becky Spence in "Teaching Kids to Spell," offering engaging letter activities across four levels: Beginning Sounds, Ending Sounds, Middle/Vowel Sounds, and Blends and Digraphs. Each level includes four interactive activities:

• Sort It! - Categorize letters based on their sounds using visual cues like shopping scenes or the beach.
• Find It! - Identify the picture with a distinct sound among a set of four.
• Spell It! - Arrange spelling tiles to complete words depicted in images.
• Write It! - Trace or write letters at varying stages of difficulty.

Furthermore, the app features an entertaining section where children can engage in playful interactions with letters and sounds through games like BINGO, matching activities, and a slingshot game.
